Keep Right Laws

Keep Right Laws
Keep RightThe BC Motor Vehicle Act requires drivers to drive the vehicle in the right hand lane available for traffic, or as closely as practicable to the right hand curb or edge of the roadway.

Many drivers are under the mistaken impression that this applies only to roads where the speed limit is 80km/h or more.  This is not entirely accurate.

Indeed section 151.1 of the BC MVA makes drivers accountable to the tune of $167 and 3 demerit points on roads of 80km/h or more.

However section 150 (2) of the BC MVA is applicable to all roads in BC, including city streets, and drivers can still be fined $109 and 3 demerit points for blocking traffic in the city.

Exceptions are made for drivers who are passing/overtaking, turning left, or making room for an official vehicle stopped on the right.

So don’t be that guy! 🙂
